Nonlocal hydrodynamic Drude resonances of nano-plasmonic scatterers: Modeling and simulations

چکیده
As the plasmonic scatterers get much smaller than the wavelength of the incident light, local material models like the Drude model and the Lorentz model become inadequate to describe accurately the light-matter interactions. To overcome this, a sophisticated nonlocal hydrodynamic Drude model is investigated. In practice, it is further simplified and simulated with the curl-free approximation, which generates spurious resonances. In this work we discuss a weak formulation based rigorous numerical investigations of the nonlocal hydrodynamic Drude model. This approach does not use the curl-free approximation, and thus avoids spurious resonances. The simulated results agree good with Mie results, and the method is capable of handling arbitrarily shaped scatterers.

Optical Observation of Plasmonic Nonlocal Effects in a 2D Superlattice of Ultrasmall Gold Nanoparticles.
The advances in recent nanofabrication techniques have facilitated explorations of metal structures into nanometer scales, where the traditional local-response Drude model with hard-wall boundary conditions fails to accurately describe their optical responses. The emerging nonlocal effects in single ultrasmall silver nanoparticles have been experimentally observed in single-particle spectroscop...

We propose Hybridizable Discontinuous Galerkin (HDG) methods for solving the frequencydomain Maxwell’s equations coupled to the Nonlocal Hydrodynamic Drude (NHD) and Generalized Nonlocal Optical Response (GNOR) models, which are employed to describe the optical properties of nano-plasmonic scatterers and waveguides. Brief derivations for both the NHD model and the GNOR model are presented. The ...

Using a fully quantum mechanical approach we study the optical response of a strongly coupled metallic nanowire dimer for variable separation widths of the junction between the nanowires. The translational invariance of the system allows to apply the time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) for nanowires of diameters up to 10 nm which is the largest size considered so far in quantum mod...

We study the effect of nonlocal optical response on the optical properties of metallic nanowires, by numerically implementing the hydrodynamical Drude model for arbitrary nanowire geometries. We first demonstrate the accuracy of our frequency-domain finite-element implementation by benchmarking it in a wide frequency range against analytical results for the extinction cross section of a cylindr...
